(Afrikaanse teks ondertoe, rol af asseblief)

I am a proud ambassador to the Durbanville Children’s Home.

To raise funds, I run long distances, including the Comrades Marathon (87 km / 55 miles) and the Two Oceans (56 km / 35 miles) without shoes.

There are 144 children in the Durbanville Children’s Home. They were placed there by a court.

They come as traumatised children, but through intensive treatment, they walk out as whole people.

The children’s home has a team of social workers, childcare workers, care therapists, physiotherapists, psychologists and other professionals who pay attention to each child.

The state pays only one third of the Children’s Home funds. The rest must be donated.

I donate myself month, and I ask that others to also contribute to this great work.

Why barefoot?

There are excellent athletes in the Durbanville Children’s Home.

This girl recently represented South Africa in rock climbing.

This boy is one of many children in the Home who have provincial colours in sport.

Even the very young people participate in sports.

I am a runner but I not as good as these young people are. My bare feet, however, make it possible to talk about the fantastic work the Durbanville Children’s Home does.

Please consider contributing. Click here for the details.

Hoekom kaalvoet?
